Bicycles for Humanity Western Australia (B4HWA)

The B4HWA chapter was established in 2011 to address the fundamental barriers to development and healthcare in rural Africa. To date, we have delivered 19 containers filled with over 6900 bikes to small communities in Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Malawi.

By partnering with NGOs like Bicycling Empowerment Network Namibia (BENN) our containers of bikes, spare parts and tools become the basis of new community run bike shops. This way our projects not only provide life changing transport — they also become self-empowerment projects for the community.

B4HWA also donates bikes to schools in remote communities across Western Australia. These bikes are used by schools in their broader health and retention programs. We also provide bikes to other charities helping refugees start new lives here in Perth, WA.

For in-depth information about how it works in Africa, watch Richard Sidey and Hap Cameron’s wonderful doco about Bicycles For Humanity, Namibia and Hap’s ten year mission to live and work in every continent before turning 30. This film tells the story of what we do with a huge heart and shows an intimate view of Africa where many of our projects are based.
